In the southernmost tip of Luzon, Philippines lies a vast region called Bikol. It is a land veiled in mystery as it is both blessed & ravaged by nature. Typhoons batter its landscape annually while a highly active volcano murmurs in the background. This constant pummelling by ocean currents and occasional spewing from the bowels of the earth has kept its lush mountains virgin and highly fertile.

Deep within its forests lies Bikol’s most prized tree—Pili. When translated, it means “chosen”. Although locals have been processing its wonderful nuts for food since the Spanish times, there are also treasures that can be mined from its bark, pulp, and even its leafy crown.

This discovery was made by organic agricultural advocate Rosalina “Rose” S. Tan. She was looking for ways to help promote Bikol and help the locals mired in poverty from all the natural disasters that beset the region.

Seeking the help of a team of scientists and experts, they carefully extracted oil from the fruits and resin of the PILI tree to test them for the same uses Virgin Coconut Oil is now renowned for the world over. Sure enough, they found that pili oil, extracted from the pulp, helps hydrate the skin while elemi oil, which is distilled from the resin, helps keep the skin’s firmness and elasticity.

But more testing had to be done, so Rose, along with her team, ardently studied the various methods of extraction and application of the oils. The final products were not only good for man, but also for the environment.

After more than a decade, Rose is finally ready to unveil PILI to the world. It is a luxurious personal care brand that uses 100% natural PILI and ELEMI oils as base and active ingredients for its products.

Bikol’s precious secret can now be shared to the world in a sustainable manner.

Natural beauty comes from feeling beautiful within

Although PILI is a line of personal care products, its mission is not about achieving skin deep beauty. Its philosophy is grounded on the idea that natural beauty comes from feeling beautiful within.

PILI also works closely with Bikol’s farmers to protect the forest where pili trees thrive. All work is done within the tree’s natural seasonal cycles. No harmful pesticides, chemicals or other synthetic materials are used to grow the trees or induce harvests.

Moreover, by making the research labs, marketing and distribution arms available to the farmers, they can have a sustainable livelihood and a better quality of life. Their progress and prosperity will naturally flow throughout the community, empowering everyone.

PILI is about beauty—for our skin and more importantly, for our community.
